You’ll make a block pouch while learning the basics of quilting with a sewing machine. The outer part of the pouch is made from various fabric scraps using the modern improv-quilting technique. Then, you stitch this layer onto the batting, learning the basics of machine quilting. This mini quilt will then be transformed into a block pouch with a zipper and lining. Which cheerful fabrics will you combine to create your unique design?

This workshop is suitable for all beginners familiar with using a sewing machine. A great opportunity to learn the basics of quilting through a clear and enjoyable project! Note: the workshop is conducted in English and has a maximum of 8 participants.

The workshops take place on Sunday afternoons in our atelier. The currently scheduled dates are:

  • Sunday December 8 – 12:30 to 17:00 – FULL
  • Sunday February 16– 12:30 to 17:00

  • You’ll get to know the improvisational quilting technique: learn how to turn various small “scraps” into a cohesive piece that forms the outside of the pouch. Ana shares plenty of tips and tricks on sewing with a quilting foot and combining fabrics into a beautifully quilted piece.
  • You’ll learn how to apply machine quilting to give the outside of your pouch a fluffy batting layer.
  • You’ll work with a sewing pattern that you’ll apply to your quilted piece of fabric.
  • You’ll learn step-by-step how to add a zipper and lining to your quilted fabric to create the pouch.
  • You’ll become familiar with various quilting terms, essential quilting tools, and beginner quilting techniques.

The price for the workshop, from 12:30 to 17:00, is €95

All materials are included, so you don’t need to bring anything!

For this workshop, we’ve put together various sets of quilt-fabric scraps from which you can choose at the start of the workshop. You’ll use these to design your block pouch. You’ll also select matching lining, batting, and zipper from our collection. You’ll have access to our cutting mats, rulers, rotary cutters, sewing machines, sewing machine feet, sewing threads, and other necessary supplies.

In addition, our atelier offers a spacious and inspiring workspace with sewing and serger machines, a steam iron, elevated cutting tables, and coffee/tea with treats.

Note: The scrap sets may vary per workshop; the photos are examples.
