What will you make during this quilting workshop?

In this 5-hour workshop, you will create a stylish quilted cushion measuring 45 x 45 cm. You will learn how to design a pattern using squares and Half-Square Triangles, how to assemble and quilt the layers of your cushion, and how to sew a neat envelope closure. By the end of the day, you’ll go home with a unique, handmade cushion cover—ready to brighten up your sofa or favorite chair!

Who is the workshop quiltblock design cushion suitable for?

This workshop is suitable for all beginners familiar with using a sewing machine. A great opportunity to learn the basics of quilting through a clear and enjoyable project! Note: the workshop is conducted in English and has a maximum of 8 participants.

When are the workshops quilting for beginners?

The workshops take place on Sundays in our atelier. The currently scheduled dates are:

• Sunday, May 11 – 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM – 7 spots available
• Sunday, July 6 – 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM (includes a 30-minute lunch break) – 7 spots available

What will you learn during the quilting workshop?

• You’ll get introduced to quilting with quilt blocks in a grid pattern: you’ll learn how to create great fabric combinations using quilting techniques and how to turn your quilt block into a stylish cushion cover. Ana will share plenty of tips and tricks on sewing with a quilting foot and selecting fabrics to create a beautifully quilted block.
• You’ll work with a quilt pattern that incorporates the sandwich technique, learning how to skillfully combine the quilt top, batting, and backing.
• Step by step, you’ll transform your quilt block into a unique cushion cover with an envelope closure.
• Along the way, you’ll become familiar with essential quilting terms, the most important quilting tools, and various quilting techniques—including take-home instructions so you can recreate your project again!

What’s included in the price?

The price for the workshop is €105

All materials are included, so you don’t need to bring anything!

For this workshop, we’ve put together various sets of quilt-fabric scraps from which you can choose at the start of the workshop. You’ll use these to design your totebag. You’ll also select matching lining and straps from our collection. You’ll have access to our cutting mats, rulers, rotary cutters, sewing machines, sewing machine feet, sewing threads, and other necessary supplies.

In addition, our atelier offers a spacious and inspiring workspace with sewing and serger machines, a steam iron, elevated cutting tables, and coffee/tea with treats.

Note: The scrap fabric sets vary per workshop; the photos are for reference only. You can bring your own lunch or order one at Grutsk, the café next door.

You’ll be guided by the highly experienced quilt instructor Ana!

Ana is a passionate sewing and quilting teacher from Amsterdam with Spanish roots. She brings knowledge and experience from her studies at the London College of Fashion and from teaching numerous sewingclasses in the Netherlands and Spain. She also creates her own, well-known, modern quilt and clothing patterns under the name CocoWawa Crafts. Ana developed this workshop herself and teaches it in English.
